My First Blog

So here I am writing my first blog and all credit or whatever goes to one of the most important person in my life – my Sister. She has this faith in my writing and she also says I think good (I disagree with both though)
So my first blog is dedicated to her – Annu Didi. Now, many of you must be knowing what “Didi” means, but for those who don’t know here goes the meaning. We Indians are cultured to call our elders with special “honorary” names – suffix or prefix. And “Didi” is for our elder sisters, especially in the North. Other versions across the country are jiji, moti ben, didimoni, didibhai, akka, etc. But I was groomed to call her Didi and have always called her that only.
She came in my life or should I say I came in her life on a cold afternoon of October – date was 29th as a “constant” without whom I feel lost in many ways. Though I do not remember much of it but Ma says she was a sweet little kid who saw her younger sister for the first time with her big wide beautiful eyes and somehow annoyed also as Ma was being administered glucose. She thought it was me who was responsible for that pipe go in Ma’s hand via a needle. Anyways I forgive her for that – after all she was just a 2 something old baby. She adored me and I was her prized possession when I was a baby and could not retaliate to her silent tortures.. She would try to hold me, pick me up, once tried to ride me as well (I was just a few weeks old), show her love by kissing me hard enough to make me cry, and some things Ma did not ever reveal…so she gets the benefit of doubt..
We shared our childhood together from the golden days in Kashmir to the “purple cheek” hot Jammu to the first few years in Chandigarh…we reached an age were we became friends and shared – A Lot…went to same schools – primary and secondary…shared same bicycle…same scooter…same games…some dresses also..infact many…we had this wonderful childhood together..which we quite often share and laugh aloud…silly fights…crazy games...her trying to teach me something and me “un”learning it in matter of seconds…we getting medals together…our participation in the extra-curriculars and yeah we have stories for each event…her opting science and me following it…And one fine day it was decided that she had to go to Pune to complete her Engineering…and I was for the first time experiencing distance from her…it was actually not a very nice feeling right then…but with time we got used to this distance which extended from pune and now as far as to the US…But as they say “Distance make the heart go fonder”… and in some ways its true….
Oh! One more thing about her…she has been a scale for me - a literal scale – height, weight, academic marks, everything…we have so far been able to maintain constants here as well..she is still taller than me by 2 inches, her weight still is less than me by some “XX” kgs…she still excels in academics (lets not get into details here )…

In my college days she was my ATM…a shopping mall…I have all my college life showed off the best of clothes, bags, belts, watches, shoes courtesy her …and I thank you Didi with all my heart
Beyond all this, we share a bond of faith, trust, friendship and respect for each other..Needless to say it’s been our parents who have inculcated in us respect for each other…She is my advice box – if ever I am stuck in things where confusions mounts to me asking for a advice I cant think of anybody but her..she is practical, very practical indeed and that leads to me reaching at a fair decision mostly…she is a pillar in my life - a support so sure which gives me the courage to think beyond the walls and I know she is there to guide me, support me and even if it does not turn very good she would let me DO it for the fact that “I” wanted to do it…..She has always been a shoulder to cry on – though I don’t cry too often …but once in a while we all have a heart break, we feel weak, we feel alone, we feel miserable for some things we have no control at, we see some dreams shattering – ah!! This list is endless – bottom line is she is always there with comforting words and if nothing her silence comforts the most…she is my punching bag also – when I want to crib about my friends, roommates, even ma papa, office anything and everything– she is there…. She is friend with whom I can talk for hours and we really do not realize its been “hours”...and yes – She CAN keep secrets …hell lot of my secrets are at her mercy…
All I can say is I am blessed and am thankful to God and my parents for bringing me into this world as her sister...World and life could never ever would have been so beautiful without her…She is the “Girl” of our family who has made everyone so proud…I never want to be like her because I know I cant be like her…she is a unique person in whom we see promise for her own self and lot of ‘making us proud” qualities…
I wish all her dreams come true …
I don’t know what I am going to write next…when I am going to write next, but I am happy that this is my first blog…
